The Season Has Arrived
On the eve of the NSL regular season dreams are alive for every player, coach and franchise. For the Knicks, the above rings true. By design, the team had a down year in 24/25, but to start climbing the standings again the work has been done. What started with being successful in the draft lottery where the franchise landed the #2 overall pick, to having a complete turn around in roster build. New faces from players to coaching staff and mostly attitude, is what is expected to help the team give the Knicks faithful what they have been dreaming of for years.
At the top of the mountain is a GM who is trying to lead by example. Making the tough decisions in this cut throat industry takes courage, and it takes the GM to be adaptive to the environment every year.
"In years past I don’t feel I have adapted well enough to the game style." Smokey said. "I have done a lot of work this off season working on relationships and learning how to make this environment the best, so everyone can succeed in their role."
The start of the NSL season is hopefully going to see a completely different New York Knicks team. Not only from a personnel standpoint, but from a game style perspective too.
In years gone by it has always been a safe style of play for the knicks, over concerning themselves in the small things that make the game what it is. Some of this due to the roster build, but most due to a GM who couldn’t embrace change.
The team is built differently this season, a 6’8” play making point guard, a superstar who can lead the team and culture and an array of defensive and offensive versatility that the Knicks have never seen. Luck will still be required in some parts, but the pieces are in place to attack the season.
"We have a game plan in place that will be fast paced throughout the game." New head coach Mike Brown said. "We understand that our desire to play fast is going to give our opponents the ability to score heavily, but we feel we can put big scores on the board too. If things don’t work our ability to lock down will come into effect."
It is an exciting time of the year in the NSL, and for the Knicks fans there will be plenty of bumps a long the way in our journey this year, but all we say is…..ENJOY!
