Watch Out!

Yeah, we've sucked. Yeah, we have more than twice as many losses as we do wins. But with Kemba running things on offense, Julius looking like he wants to be a real second option and Christian Wood waiting to fill our biggest need when he gets back from ankle injury - there is real hope that wee can put the pieces together and work our way into the playoff discussion... which was really our goal from the start of the season.

The Jrue experiment was an absolute failure - it made some sense to begin with... bring in a defense/leadership star to lead a team of score-first role players, but it just didn't happen. Now that the team has fully pivoted to Kemba leading the charge, the fit is so much better that it is laughable to think that the front office thought it would be better with Jrue.

The hope at this point is that the Wood/Randle/Walker combo is easily a playoff level "Big 3". Combined with continued growth from the 4 rookies and better contributions from role players like Aldridge, Huerter, Biyombo, Milton, and Graham - we really should be well positioned to - not only beat non-playoff teams going forward, but give a challenge to fellow playoff-hopefuls.

It has really been a “worst case scenario” between injury luck, poor coaching, and tough schedules at this point. This team is not a 27-win team (in an 82-game schedule) and that’s where they’ve currently been playing. There was certainly some hope that they would be a playoff-favorite when they traded away this year’s 1st, and the roster seems like it is at that point, but they’ll need to really step up their game for the remainder to have any relevance in the postseason.

There is real optimism that OKC can not only sneak into the playoffs, but give several contending teams a run for their money – which is exactly where the Thunder wanted to be in this mini-rebuild.
