New GM for Indiana
Extract taken from "The Cornfeed Herald" - reported by Bud Conklin
The Indiana Pacers would like to welcome back former legend Detlef Schrempf as the new GM
Schrempf was selected eighth overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1995 NBA Draft. He became a regular in NBA rotations after being traded to the Indiana Pacers for veteran center Herb Williams in February 1989. Playing for the Mavericks, he finished second in the NBA with a .478 three-point percentage in 198687, and eventually worked his way into the starting line-up. In 1991 and 1992, he won consecutive NBA Sixth Man Award. In the 199293 season, he was the only player in the NBA to finish in the top 25 in scoring (19.1 ppg), rebounding (9.5 rpg) and assists (6.0 apg), and was the first European selected to play in the NBA All-Star Game, the first of his three appearances.
Schrempf is looking to instil the culture and professionalism he drove in his playing days to the front office. When questioned on his thoughts on the roster he quoted
"The roster has potential, currently we are missing some key pieces [Towns/Ball] and we hope to be at full strength soon but I can see a good future here. We have flexibility, and we want to develop a roster, that's an important thing"
He further commented on recent trade rumours around PJ Tucker and Neismith
"Both PJ and Aaron are quality people, professionals and understand the business of the NBA. They are both quality players and have been for this organisation. We are looking at some moves around the margins at this stage, however nothing has been finalised"
Fans are excited for this new change in leadership, and are hoping leads the Pacers back to the playoffs in years to come.
