Late Boston Draft Recap
I understand a lot of teams may say that they got all of their targets in the draft, but GM Toby, says the Boston Celtics exceeded their draft expectations.
This was a tricky spot for Boston. They were fairly active with the pick. They had been trying to trade up, trade back or trade out. But nothing eventuated. They were not overly enamoured with anyone in this range, but did have their eye on guys like O-max, Sensabaugh, Whitehead, Smith Jr and Vasquez. Just to name a few.

Not for one second did the GM think that Cam Whitmore who slid in the NBA draft would slide in the NSL draft. He mentioned that he assumed he would go lottery based on his pre draft rankings and scouting. So when he fell to them at pick 22, it was a no brainer.
We are still not sure what exactly caused the slide. There are murmurs of poor medicals, but nothing has come to light, and ill tell you what he looked healthy at summer league. Healthy enough to win the Summer League MVP anyway.
Boston are stoked with that pick and sometimes you cant fight things falling in your lap. Obviously he has done nothing in the NBA so too early to call it a win, but the franchise is happy with him.
PICK 34
Boston has a post draft deal with Indiana that landed them this pick. There was heaps of talent in the early second round and Boston had their targets.

Some of the names on their list were, GG Jackson, Walsh and Rupert. All of which they could of selected. They ended up getting the guy who that throughout the process scouted with their first round pick, being Maxwell Lewis.
Lewis struggled a little during summer league but showed some nice flashes. There are no expectations that he makes an impact not he floor right away, but has some really nice size and tools to grow into.
Pick 37
Trayce Jackson-Davis was a name that Boston had always planned on taking, and even flirted with the idea of taking him with their earlier second pick, which obviously was not necessary.
His NBA draft slide was wild, and was another one that during scouting had been mocked late first and Boston had been considering taking him with their first pick.

The slide in the NBA was odd. I am under the impression there was a promise which is why he ended up getting selected so late.
He is on the older side, but dominated college basketball and has some nice NBA tools. Although perhaps a little small for a centre, he does have nice athleticism and a solid frame. If he can generate some form of a jump shot it will go nicely with his lob threat potential and passing.
PICK 59

Who doesnt love a late draft flier? We know Boston does.
Boston had hoped Colin Castleton was going to fall to them, but obviously did not. Instead selected Terquavion Smith. Who it appears would of been better declaring for the draft last year, however opted to go back to college and didnt have the year he hoped.
Still he showed his flashes as a microwave scorer who can get hot at any stage. But his slight frame may be hard to overcome.
Looking back on the results after the dust has settled there are some thoughts that other people could of been selected, but at the end of they Boston got four new people on their roster that they had been fans of. So cant complain too much.
But as stated above, this all means nothing. In the years to come we will see how the draft actually panned out. Fingers crossed all hits for Boston.
