Ah McCain, you've done it again...
Only the Australians will get the headline... (It is an Australian food brand that sell like frozen chips and stuff and that was the slogan for their TV adds)
Anyway... Jared McCain was taken with the 19th overall pick in the 2024 draft was one
of the few bright spots in an extremely underwhelming season.
McCain burst
on to the scene and blew out anyone’s expectations of would he could do his
rookie season. He was scouted as one of the better shooters in the draft which
he showed to be the best out of the gate, but his maturity and poise was a
pleasant surprise.
Most smaller
guards usually take some time to adjust but he didn’t seem to have any issues
at least offensively. Some of his highlights were incredible. The relocation and
no dip shooting were beautiful to watch and I might even go as far as saying if
you squinted it reminded you of a future hall of famer that’s still in the
league…
Defensively
he wasn’t horrible, but has some ways to go to become a positive on that end.
Unfortunately
his amazing run and what seemed to be a lock for rookie of the year was cut
short with a torn meniscus.
According to
sources, McCain’s rehab has been successful, and he should be good to go for
training camp.
Gm, Toby is
eager to see him back in action, as he can only watch his limited highlights on
Youtube so many times.
Hopefully
big things for the second year guard this upcoming season. Unsure of the role
at this stage, whether he will start or be that 6th man off the bench.
There are
plenty of guards on the roster but McCain is only shooting guard eligible so he
will have to contend with the likes of Bogdan Bogdanovic, Moses Moody, Kyshawn
George, Jeylen Wells and Jett Howard. All things are pointing to Wells and
George having solid second seasons also, so we will see what happens.
Nothing wrong
with some friendly competition. All fingers are crossed for a healthy and successful
season for the TikTok sensation.
