Play in worries
It hasn't been the playoff lock season we had envisioned, after enduring the toughest schedule in the league over the first 12 weeks, we then immediately lost Julius Randle to injury and went on a massive slide during what the schedule would portray as our "easy weeks." We now face an uphill battle over the last few weeks missing even more players, with Tyus Jones and Devin Vassell both going out of our lineup until playoff / play-in time due to their NBA teams tanking. Julius Randle doesn't look close for the Knicks and Brandon Clarke won't be available for selection until week 19 (as long as he doesn't miss any more games).
Looking at our schedule from here we're optimistic of a 44W, 38L season which at this point we aren't sure if that's a playoff berth record. With good health for both teams ahead I can't see us catching Indiana or New York for that 6th seed and a guaranteed 7 game series to allow me to work some magic. Instead, we look to face play in games for the last playoff spots.1 game series in 2k are borderline impossible to manipulate when you are on an equal level talent wise. You need everything to go right in the 1 sim i.e. Chet doesn't get into foul trouble; Amen doesn't become a turnover machine; Tyus doesn't miss his open looks. Over a 7-game series those small issues that may pop up over 1 game doesn't matter in deciding who wins the series unless you face a game 7 scenario obviously. Over 7 games I'm very confident in finding an edge on most opponents. Leaving it to chance that everything goes perfectly for 1 game is worrying.
Our post season hopes lie with Randle returning, as mentioned in a previous article we are 10W-3L with Randle with an average winning margin of around 20 points I cbf doing the math while I write this but it's thereabouts. He is a huge part in how our system runs, without him I'm not sure we can get through that 1 game series of the play-in tournament.
