Throwing in the Towel

Well, the decision was made, the team decided to throw the towel in for the season. What made it happen you ask? Well with so many teams deciding that they are going for it this year, there is a ton of talent at the top of the league. With Victor Oladipo being out for half the season, it became apparent this team didn’t have the talent to compete without him. Bagley has been in and out of the lineup also, and that has just made it really difficult to win.
Numerous offers had been made for some fringe players on the lineup, and after a lot of soul searching, the Pacers front office decided to move on a couple of players. Moving on from Tyson Chandler and PJ Tucker would be important, as they could help another team win a title now, and both are aging. The front office wanted to do right by them and instead of just playing them off the bench here, they would get to make the playoffs somewhere else.
With those deals brought in Malik Beasley and some 2nd round picks. The team is happy with Beasley, he is looking for a big deal this offseason, so this will be a trial run for him. He has moved right into the starting lineup at shooting guard, and we are going to see what he can do.
When the deal for Blake Griffin came across the table, the front office initially said no. But after a night of sleep, they decided it might make sense to add him to the roster next year. Assuming he can actually suit up, Blake is still a top talent in the league, so putting him next to Oladipo made sense. Blake’s salary is a problem though, with how much he makes, the team is going to basically be Oladipo. Blake, Bledsoe, and a bunch of rookies/minimum players.
That being said, Dion Waiters doesn’t fit the bill on this team. He can still get buckets in 2k, so he could be valuable somewhere, but with the team in the luxury tax, it would make sense to move on from him. Eventually Oladipo and Beasley will be ahead of him on the depth chart, so he needs to go either soon or in the offseason. Anyone want to give him a second chance somewhere?
