That's All Folks!

After the grueling season is finally over, it looks like the Pacers are going to finish with the 4thworst record in the league at 27-55. This isn’t exactly what the team was thinking when they drafted last year, but things changed quite a bit. Victor Oladipo was out for much longer than expected. Marvin Bagley was out of the lineup for much of the year with injury too. The team had the opportunity to go out and get Blake Griffin at a discount, and got Aaron Gordon, an exciting pickup too. The team managed to claw its way out of the luxury tax after having one of the most bloated payrolls to start the season. Where do we go from here?
Well with two draft picks this year, one looking to be just outside of the lottery, and one looks to have a potential of a top-5 pick, the team will be scouting draft prospects during the playoffs. This year is rumored to be a fairly weak draft class, so we aren’t expecting any game changers, but looking for some guys that can come in and help turn the team around immediately. With two draft choices next season also, the team really has a chance to get on the youth train, while still competing next year if everyone is healthy.
As has been discussed earlier, the only free agent the team needs to worry about in the offseason is Malik Beasley, who will likely be a restricted free agent, but may command a lot more money than the team wants to pay him. It depends on what that number is, but he may walk if it’s too high. The team already has Oladipo to play the shooting guard position, and unless Beasley can develop his passing abilities better, he may be the odd man out.
The team has been pretty happy with how everything ended up, even though all the injuries, the franchise still won 27 games, which isn’t that bad considering. Every team seemed to be in a win now mode, so getting 27 wins out of the East is pretty darn impressive. The offseason will be about recovery and the future for everyone.
