Goodbye Victor, Hello Pascal!

The Indiana Pacers finally made a deal after a lot of inquiries from many teams about the future of Victor Oladipo.  The team resisted the urge to trade the former All-NBA shooting guard even as reports had surfaced that he wanted out of Indiana.  Most offers were based around future picks, and that just didn’t make sense for the Pacers, who are trying to maximize the team with Joel Embiid as the centerpiece.  He’s one superstar you want to keep happy.  Ultimately, the teams early performance, starting out so far at 4-7 is what made it more able to stomach.

Enter the Kings.  GM Klemmelo showed some interest in Oladipo for Siakam early, but the teams couldn’t come to an agreement on the surrounding pieces.  After not a lot of debate, but getting some other teams involved to get salaries correct, the team finally pulled the trigger on this deal:

Pacers get: Pascal Siakam(PF), Richaun Holmes(C), and Josh Okogie(SG)

Kings get: Victor Oladipo(SG), Danuel House Jr(SF), 2nd rounder Portland 2022

T-Wolves get: Aaron Gordon(SF)

Warriors get: 2nd rounder GS 2021

*The team isn’t positive when the Warriors got in the mix, but most reporters are saying the 2nd rounder to GS was due to another trade.

So what does this do for the Pacers?  We already have Blake Griffin at PF, so what’s the move.  Well initially we are going to try to bring Blake off the bench as a 6th man.  He hasn’t been getting as many touches with Embiid around the rim, so this should free him up to create with Holmes off the bench.  Malik Beasley will get his chance to start at SG, and the rest remains the same.  The small forward spot is up for grabs, but the team is really in love with Duncan Robinson there, so he will keep seeing minutes until he proves otherwise.

Lastly, the team wanted to say thanks to Victor, he didn’t get to play a ton of minutes for the team since he was drafted, but he was a beloved figure for his brief stint in Indiana.  Good luck Victor, we hope you fair well in Sac-town!
