Blake on the Move?
Blake Griffin is being sat out starting next week with discussions of a buyout in the works. The Indiana Pacers have been shopping him, but aren’t excited to give up on Blake yet. Most of the offers that have come across the table include the Pacers sending out first round picks, and the club just is not excited to do that.
The Pacers are considering just keeping Blake in his current form, and eating the salary rather than trading off picks to move him. He has not been playing great, but he is still good in the 2k engine despite his NBA production. So what are the Pacers willing to consider?
The Pacers would move Blake in a package that did not require sending out multiple firsts. One first round pick might be possible, but there would have to be value at the other end. There will be no just dumping of salary to dump salary if it costs future assets. The Pacers are in need of a better starting point guard. Derrick Rose is great, but he is not what this team needs to get over the hump and back in the playoff race. There have been rumors about a certain former Villanova PG, but that is just rumors right now.
In other news, the team continues to get calls on Embiid, but just to restate what has been said to all GMs that come calling, Embiid is not for sale, he is the biggest asset on the team, and the Pacers will not consider moving him unless another star is involved. We moved all our young pieces and picks to get him, so it would not make a lot of sense to go backwards unless there is another star involved.
