Team Update

State of a franchise
With the team sitting in week 15 having taking a minor
slide down the standings it was time to reflect on the state of a franchise and
the actions that needed to happen
There were talks of trades recently but they have
cooled off with any franchise defining decisions to be completed in the
off-season
Centre

Giannis Antetokounmpo - $42,492,568

Luka Garza - $1,563,518
This is one area that needs some tweaking for the
clippers, to go from a one man wrecking crew to Luka Garza it is a talent gap
that is far too wide, a solid veteran presence would be ideal to find at some
point in the future
Power Forward

Domantas Sabonis - $19,800,000

Isaiah Roby - $1,930,681

Usman Garuba - $2,471,160
A little more evened
out talent at the 4 with Sabonis a former all-star and Isaiah Roby a solid
young player. Hopes are high that Garuba can step up in coming seasons and
become a Serge Ibaka type player
Small Forward

Trey Murphy - $3,206,640

Corey Kispert - $3,552,960
Trey and Corey are
solid rookies to have coming through as role players and both compliment the
main man quite well. Corey the shooter and Trey the prototypical 3&D wing. Like
other positions mentioned while its nice to have the youth coming through. Solid
veteran presence is whats missing
Shooting Guard

RJ Barrett

David Nwaba

Colin Sexton
RJ is the main man
here for the Clips with Colin the dynamic 6man player with numerous injuries
late into the season RJ has moved to PG and truly showing his versatility
averaging 20/5/4 with 46/38/88 splits
With Rubio likely to
walk away this may be a role RJ moves to on a more permanent basis.
Point Guards

N/A
Pretty sad state of
affairs for LA at the one spot, Rubio the only true PG is injured and ready to
walk away from the franchise, the only benefit here is the 17million dollars
relief him leaving brings. With cap space extremely tight the idea of bringing
in an established guard is not too feasible its likely a case of Draft, cheap
veteran or use one of RJ, Giannis or Sexton once fit
Cap situation
A lot depends on what type
of deal Colin Sexton signs on the dotted line for in 2022/23 anywhere north of
15,000,000 would be a tough pill to swallow, if it is 15mill area LAC would
have a salary of around $111,000,000 and 3 draft picks and four roster spots. Trying to maintain cap
flexibility is tough. Specifically in a league where over half the teams are currently sitting over the Lux tax line.
Outlook
Tough to gauge, and
still sitting at a fork in the road as too what direction to take the franchise,
patience though is a virtue and something I have plenty of.
