Making Money Move's

Making Moves

To say the last few weeks of Clipper basketball has been underwhelming would be quite the understatement having only the one victory in the last ten games and slowing falling down the standing and back to some might say a realistic position given the state of current roster makeup.

The spate of recent losses triggered a few moves with an eye well and truly geared toward the future of the roster.

Corey Kispert to Portland Trailblazers for Tor 2023 1st & Orl 2026 2nd

Why?

Firstly this wasn't an easy decision as Corey was viewed as an important building block for the future you don't often find High IQ shooters come out of the draft and Corey is exactly that in the mold of JJ Reddick or Kyle Korver.

not the sexy draft pick but the type of player you didn't think you needed.

So why trade him?

With LAC clearly retooling its roster, we a) need trade-able assets and whats more trade-able than draft picks and b) roster spots to use on position's of need

Duncan Robinson, PJ Washington Den 2025 1st to Golden State Warriors for Jerami Grant

Why?

This trade was done for two reasons the main reason being Duncan Robinson and his contract, the second being that PJ Washington being an RFA and likely seeking a hefty pay rise entering restricted free agency.

If required and it is a possibility Jerami could walk away not only clearing a second roster spot but an additional 20 million dollars plus in salary. opening up a boatload of options entering the draft and free agency

The Future

one thing I am constantly doing and probably to the chagrin of others is keeping one eye on the future when looking at trade offers. what does this look like in 1 or 2 years (dropped the ball on Duncan right)

that said how are the clippers looking in the immediate future

2023 1st's = 6

2023 2nds = 2

2023 Expiring contracts / Cap Hold's = $69,780,518

to say im pretty happy with the current status would be an understatement yeah we arent winning just yet. but i definitely feel like an upward trajectory is in the teams future, its just a matter of making the right moves a recognising when to pull the trigger

finally I couldn't finish up a clippers news article and not touch on the recent NBA form of Jalen J-Dub Williams who has been tearing it up in recent weeks and well on his way to becoming a top talent from the 2022 draft class.

The man taken #17 in the NSL draft in the past 6 games and playing position 1 to 4 for the Thunder has put up un-rookie like numbers and leading all NBA players in steals since the month of January.
