Filling the hole

Season done, lottery won, and the Clippers are at an integral junction in their journey back to the top of the west.

Whilst the lottery unfortunately went exactly as expected the Clippers expected are still left with a staggering 6 first round draft picks starting with pick number #11 in the 2023 NSL draft

With clear needs at both the center and point guard positions it looks as though #11 will be the spot to pick up a lead guard unless of course Victor falls 10 spots and to the laps of LAC. I regress, with several point guards projected to fall within this late lotto range it very likely thats exactly the route the LAC GM will go. But who?

1.     Anthony Black

Anthony is a huge lead guard out of Arkansas standing 67 he is a polished half court player and a plus defender would probably have been projected higher if his shooting was a little better. (Sounds a lot like the Giddey comps?)

2.     Cason Wallace

Cason is arguably not only the best defender amongst his point guard peers but best defender in the whole 2023 draft.

3.     Jalen Hood-Schifino

Jalen is the point guard on the rise in this draft possessing measurables that would be coveted by teams standing 65 with a 610 wingspan. He is good across the board regarding skills. But not elite in any area.

4.     Kobe Bufkin

Kobe is an uber talented guard (ever heard that line before) who could easily outperform his draft position. Another prospect with plus size at just under 65 with a 68 wingspan. Kobe is a good half court player and had good shooting splits in his sophomore season on a very small sample size.

Point Guards contracted.

Ayo Donsunmu $1,563,512 (RFA)

With RJ heading back to the SG position for the 2023/24 NSL season the only recognized point guard on the Clippers roster is Ayo.

While its a rather sad situation for LA at the point guard spot, it is exciting at the prospect of adding some fresh blood to the young core.

And while its almost a lock LAC will go PG early, we wont hesitate to take a player that falls from an earlier drafted slot as purely the best player available.

The option is also there to trade out of the draft for more established talent in line with current team projections
