Clippers Draft, Lotto Edition

Filling the hole Take 2, Mini Mock

In the 2023 NSL draft the Clippers can go numerous directions but if we do draft its highly likely we under the assumption that both Cs projected in the lottery are not available.

Even more likely the case now that both point guards utilized last season no longer qualify at the lead guard position.

Assuming the lottery goes something like this

1.     Victor Wembenyama (Indiana)

There is no possible way that the number 1 pick is used to select anyone else other than the Alien, Victor Wembenyama. Get ready NSL this dude is about to break 2K

2.     Scoot Henderson (Utah)

Personal preference but picks 2 and 3 are interchangeable 2a 2b type. When you get a chance to draft a Westbrook / Rose hybrid lead guard in Scoot Henderson you just do it, work out the rest later.

3.     Brandon Miller (Utah)

The 2b to Scoots 2a is a prototypical wing by todays standards, in the mold of Paul George. Will his off-court issues put a dent in his draft status?

4.     Amen Thompson (Detroit)

One half of the Thompson twins is Amen, was recently compared to by draft analyst by Kevin OConner (The Ringer) and given a rather lofty draft comparison as a taller Ja Morant and a slimmer Zion Williamson????? I mean seriously WTF. How is this dude not the number one pick? Id seriously consider Amen in the top 3

5.     Ausar Thompson (Lakers)

The second half of the Thompson twins and just like his brother an athletic freak with playmaking skills and lockdown defense. The upside here is massive.

6.     Cam Whitmore (Mavericks)

Cam is an interesting player, and in a few years could leave a few GMs lamenting the fact they passed on him. Much like Brandon Miller a prototypical wing and a plus defender. Only downside or draft knock is the fact he became known as an offensive ball stopper.

7.     Derrick Lively (Jazz)

A reach by NBA standards yep, but by 2k standards 72 Rim defending athletic big man? check, check and check!! will walk into the 2k engine and give you all-star level numbers from day one.

9.     Bilal Coulibaly (Heat)

Victor Wembenyamas teammate if anyone is going to cast a shadow over another prospect its going to be a player like Victor. Bilal quietly went about his job with little to no fanfare. People are only now starting to realize the prospect that Bilal is.

10.  Anthony Black (Hawks)

Anthony Black is a big, lengthy PG with Lonzo ball characteristics, though Black does have functioning knees. Went to Arizona and took control when higher touted teammates went down with injury. Great defender, not a great shooter, a bit like Giddy in a previous draft

11.  Taylor Hendricks (Clippers)

Taylor is exactly the type of player the Clippers dont need, alas he is a big body that call play PF/SF with almost the exact same game as possible future teammate Jerami Grant.

12.  Grady Dick (Pelicans)

Grady isnt the most exciting draft pick to select, and I wouldnt be at all surprised to see him fall past 12, he is however a lengthy and surprisingly athletic shooter. Exactly in the mold of Gordon Hayward. In a few years their may be a few teams wishing they had taken Dick.

13.  Kobe Bufkin (Bulls)

Kobe being drafted at number 13 must happen; I demand it happen. Kobe Bufkin is a very solid guard to draft, good half court player good defender. Question remains can he shoot? Based on sample size, yes. But Kobe also was a very reluctant shooter. If he figures out the shooting this could be a steal.

14.  Nick Smith Jr (Clipper)

Nick was one of the highest regarded draft picks coming into the 2022/23 college season, injuries essentially put an end to his top 5 goals. Regardless Smith Jr can light it up from anywhere on the basketball court and can easily see him go much higher than this.
