Anchor Aweigh

GM DazMan has finally grown impatient enough to cast away sidelined star Zion Williamson.
The trade was Zion Williamson to the Raptors for Miles Bridges, Mitchell Robinson and the Hornets 2023 1st round pick.
With rumours about his dedication to training and getting his body right and with no timetable on his return, the GM was getting very fearful of Zion eventually being ruled out for the season and his value plummeting.
And with the team enjoying being competitive but lacking a little bit of a punch both off the bench and in the starting line-up, negotiations were had with up to 10 teams for the services of Zion.
Some negotiations never got off the ground, others were evolving however proving difficult due to trade blocks. Had Daz remained patient and let a lot more of the season play out, the return and trade may have looked a lot different, but the pieces involved made a lot of sense for the teams goals now and in the near future.
Miles Bridges was the main piece, a 23 year old small forward who can slot straight into the starting line-up. Daz loves his age profile for where we want to be in 2 seasons and he has shown huge improvement in his game, which is a dedication to the hard work he puts in. He can do it all on the court and is exactly the kind of player Daz loves having on his squad.
Mitchell Robinson also fits that same age profile, and while the team was a little concerned with his contract situation, it is hoped it will all work out in the end as we would love for Mitch to be part of our long term plans. A tall, defensive minded center to pair with Evan Mobley was on the wish list and at 7'1 Robinson certainly fits the bill.
The last part of the deal was the 2023 1st, and this now gets added to a growing selection of picks in the 2023 draft. These will be invaluable assets in our 2 year plan.
So with two new additions to the starting line-up comes a bolstered bench as Precious Achiuwa and Thaddeus Young now move into the second unit, which will be a significant upgrade.
So with a lot to play out in the coming weeks and even seasons regarding Zion, it will be interesting to rate this trade with the assistance of hindsight. And yes, if he comes back fit and can ever put a full season together, then this will probably look pretty lopsided, such is the talent of the guy. But for now the Bucks are happy and GM Daz may just need to try and avoid the temptation of looking back in that rear-view mirror and wondering what if.
