Hanging in there
Week 3 is in the books and the
Bucks are still holding on to .500, good for 9th place currently in the highly
competitive Eastern Conference.
Another 2 wins and 2 losses for this young
Milwaukee team, who is still struggling for consistency between and even
throughout games.
Sometimes the offense and defence flows in
perfect harmony, other times it looks embarrassing for an NSL franchise.
It all started with a dogged affair in Chicago
with both teams struggling to score. Anthony Davis was terrific, but rookie
Evan Mobley also gave him something to worry about with 18 points,14 rebounds
and 5 blocks. The Bucks would win it by 7 on the back of a solid 4th quarter
effort.
Next was a disappointing loss at home against
the Thunder. The Bucks were confident in their own building against a
struggling Thunder team, but a terrible third quarter extinguished any chance
the team had. Kemba Walker destroyed Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in a matchup of
the star point guards.
Kevin Durant and the Mavs in Dallas was the next
challenge, but it was all smooth sailing for the Bucks, winning by 21 points.
Durant scored 22 playing center, but we assumed the damage would be far
greater, so kudos to Precious Achiuwa for keeping KD somewhat contained. The
entire starting line-up had a great game.
To finish the week, the Bucks played off in a
thriller against the Grizzlies. The whole game was back and forth with big
plays from both teams down the stretch. With the scores tied with just seconds
to play, Memphis veteran Mike Conley was able to get to the rim and finish
under duress to put the Grizzlies ahead. A heartbreaker for the visiting
Milwaukee fans.
With the recent acquisition of
Miles Bridges and Mitchell Robinson, week 4 should hopefully look different.
Both players should fit nicely into the existing offensive scheme and hopefully
see the Bucks move into the top ten for offensive efficiency. (Currently 11th)
On the defensive end, the
coaches are looking to make some adjustments to areas that they think can be
improved, and obviously having a 7’1 shot blocking machine should also help
improve the play on that end.
Better consistency of effort
and cooperation on both ends should hopefully see the Bucks fight their way
back into the top 8 over the coming weeks, despite a difficult schedule which
sees the team play 5 games against Phoenix, New York, Houston, Washington and
the Los Angeles Clippers in week 4.
Let's go Bucks!
